What Should I wear?

Feel free to wear Indian or American formal attire. American formal attire includes suits and long dresses.

Ceremony

The formal portion of an American wedding that celebrates the union of two people, signifying their love, commitment, and the beginning of a shared life.

What Should I Expect?

1. The ceremony begins with a processional, where the families and the couple enter.

2. The officiant welcomes guests and leads the ceremony.

3. The couple says their vows, including personal, self-written notes to each other.

4. The couple exchanges rings as symbols of their endless commitment and eternal love.

5. The officiant formally pronounces the couple married, followed by the first kiss and recessional exit.

6. The ceremony takes about 20-30 minutes.

What Should I Do?

1. Please arrive about 15 minutes early and take your seats.

2. Kindly stand when the bride begins to walk down the aisle, and sit when the officiant begins speaking.

3. Feel free to clap and cheer at the end of the ceremony when the couple does their first kiss!

4. Please stand once more when the couple walks down the aisle together.

Reception

The reception is the celebration that follows the ceremony and includes food, drinks, and dancing.

What Should I Expect?

1. There will be a short transition period after the ceremony (cocktail hour), with time for the guests to mingle and take photos with the newlyweds. Small bites and drinks will be available at this time.

2. After cocktail hour, guests will be welcomed to the reception space for dinner and dancing.

3. The couple will share their ‘first dance’ together, followed by dances with their parents.

4. Dinner will be served after the dances.

5. Family and friends will give speeches towards the end of dinner.

6. The newlyweds will cut the cake after dinner.

7. After the formal dances and speeches, the dance floor will open for celebration for the rest of the evening.
